About York

York Minster

York is a beautiful city, steeped in history and has been described as the "Spiritual Capital" of the North of England.

King George VI famously stated that "The history of York is the history of England" and it is easy to see why.

York has existed as a settlement since the Romans arrived in AD 71 and contains structures dating back to that point in history.

One of the most famous sights is York Minster (above), which dates back to 1472 and is thought to be one of the finest cathedrals in Europe.

York City Walls

York is also known for its three miles of medieval city walls, which ring the city centre and are open to the public.
